At the Millennium Development - P.S. 276 OST Program our objective is much more than providing a place for children to do their homework or participate in your run of the mill activities. We look to provide a safe haven for students, when their parents are hard at work, in an atmosphere that is conducive to their child’s studies, while nurturing and fostering their natural talents. We feel that in order to truly aid our OST participants we must understand them, their environment and ordeals they encounter. So our skilled staff implores and encourages OST participants to openly express themselves in a manner that is constructive, respectful and therapeutic. We find that learning about the child on an individual basis as well as a collective group provides us keen insight thus producing effective and efficient activities based upon the needs that have been assessed by our staff. Community awareness is one of our proudest achievements in the OST program. Particants to the program gain an extensive knowledge of the community and ways for them to get involved in helping. Another aspect of the OST program at PS276 is our exemplary performing arts program. The program is geared towards all grades from K-5 and avails all participants to be involved on the same scale.
Homework Assistance:
Every child that requires individual or specialized assistance with their homework receives it from one of our trained counselors. Designed to improve the academic performance of the participant that is cultivated by the teachers of P.S. 276.
Nutritional Mealtime:
This is also known as “snack time”. Each child/participant receives a well balanced snack that is prepared by the cafeteria personnel in accordance with DYCD/DOE regulations. This meal consists of high nutritional value foods in two out of the four major food groups.
Academic Enrichment:
To complement Principal Yasmine Fidelia and P.S. 276’s stellar school grading we have a steady regimen of academic activities that have an innovative approach to transcend their scholastic endeavors. We place emphasis on mathematics, literacy and specific areas of science. With Junior Achievement our participants acquire a vast array of tools ranging from financial management to learning basic life skills.
Performing Arts:
The participants receive exciting, fun filled drama classes that are created and acted out by them! Through the aid and nurturing of our staff the participants learn how to create their own characters, plot and complete story line. All Millennium directors and assistant directors partook in a Play Writing workshop and provided them with the tools to show children how to engineer a fully developed play. Physical Recreation: We provide the participants with an abundance of activities. Junior Olympics in the summer that consists of tennis, soccer, relay races and basketball. During the regular school year we provide dodge ball, volleyball, tennis, cricket, basketball, kick ball and yoga. Students of the program have volunteered their time at the Vandalia Senior Center as part of an intergeneration promotion. We have also done a food drive during the holiday season to help those less fortunate.
Millennium Developments main goal at P.S. 276 is to provide your child with best academic and recreational care we can possibly afford without you paying a dime! |
